Protect yourself this winter

Flu and COVID-19 can cause serious illness. If you are eligible, vaccination is one of the best ways to reduce your risk and help protect the people around you.

Bookings are now open. Most adult flu and COVID-19 appointments begin from 1 October 2026. Pregnant people and eligible children can receive their flu vaccination from 1 September 2026.

The eligibility rules for flu and COVID-19 are different this year. Please check the two lists below before booking.

Who is eligible?

Free NHS flu vaccine

You may be eligible if you:

  • are aged 65 or over, including if you turn 65 by 31 March 2027
  • are aged 18 to 64 and have certain long-term health conditions
  • are pregnant
  • live in a care home
  • are a main carer, receive Carer’s Allowance, or live with someone who has a weakened immune system
  • are experiencing homelessness or staying in a homeless hostel or night shelter

Eligible children include those aged 2 or 3 on 31 August 2026, children from Reception to Year 11, and children aged 6 months to 17 years with certain long-term conditions.

Winter COVID-19 vaccine

You are eligible if you:

  • are aged 75 or over, including if you turn 75 by 31 January 2027
  • are aged 6 months to 74 years and have a weakened immune system because of a health condition or treatment
  • live in a care home for older adults

Not everyone who is eligible for a flu vaccine will also be eligible for a COVID-19 vaccine.

How to arrange your vaccination

1 · CheckRead the current NHS eligibility guidance.
2 · BookBook online or in the NHS App. You do not need to wait for an invitation.
3 · AttendIf you are offered flu and COVID-19 vaccines at the same visit, they can be given together.

If Salford Medical Centre sends you a practice booking link, you can also use the instructions in that message. If you cannot book online, call 119 free of charge; interpreters are available. Frontline health and social care workers should usually arrange their flu vaccination through their employer.
